The product is a starter-sized plant with an approximate 4-inch-diameter root zone. The plant will be a minimum of 6 to 8 inches tall. It will not have buds or blooms on arrival. Starter-sized plants are intended for a gardener to plant and grow to their mature size.

  • Medinilla myriantha, often called the Malaysian Orchid or Pink Pixi, is a low-growing, epiphytic shrub with a beautiful lush growth habit and unique flowering characteristic. A tropical rainforest native, this versatile plant adds unique texture and interest to any tropical garden, or it can be grown as an outdoor porch, patio or indoor potted plant.
  • This plant is prized for its year-round, multi-stage bloom cycle. Flowers begin as elongated, cascading sprays of small pink-to-lavender petals. They gradually darken and then close to form a pendulous cluster of small, inedible, rounded berry-like nodules that hang among the large, pointed leaves. The entire process takes several weeks to complete. Note: The nodule structures resemble a berry in appearance but are decorative and not edible.
  • Care: The Malaysian Orchid prefers lightly shaded areas with bright, indirect light. As an epiphyte, it requires a loose, well-draining, acidic soil mix, such as that used for orchids or bromeliads. Water it regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, but do not allow it to become waterlogged or to dry out.
  • Indoor Growing: This plant adapts easily to indoor growing with minimal modifications. It requires high indirect light, warm temperatures above 60*F and high humidity. It may also be brought indoors to enjoy and display the long-lasting flowers and returned outdoors when the bloom cycle is done.
  • Climate: Medinilla myriantha is a tropical flowering shrub recommended for USDA Growing Zones 9B, 10 and 11. It is not a frost-tolerant plant and must be brought indoors when temperatures drop below 55°F in all other climates.
